Ruthin Sale Report 15.09.24
There was a small catalogue for the BWMSBA Ruthin Sale this year, but the animals presented for sale attained a good clearance rate of 79%.
The top price of the day was for the Male Champion, Penllwyn Flash. Sired by Fedw Be My Ewe and out of a Trefaldwyn ewe, the ram was bred by a relative newcomer to Black Welsh Mountains, E Wyn Williams, Llanfair Caereinion. The ram was purchased by Bethan Davies, Bryn yr Eglwys, Llanfynydd for 1550gns. The reserve Male Champion was a ram lamb from the Tai’n y Waen Flock of J & I Jones, Corwen. Tai’n y Waen Glyndwr. Sired by Llanover Black Prince Elder, out of a home bred ewe, he’ll joined J Mault’s Ty Isaf flock, based near Corwen for 640gns.
Top priced female was a shearling ewe, bred by P Moyle, Llanbrynmair. Not shown as Mr Moyle was undertaking judging duties, she was purchased by L Morgan, Llandysul. The Female Champion slot went to W Workman, Trecastle, with his pair of home bred Fedw ewe lambs. These made 360gns per head and were sold to P Moyle. The top priced single ewe lamb was also from the Fedw flock, selling for 340gns to O Jones. Another ewe lamb making a good sale, was from the Gaer flock of D & R Rowlands. Sired by Gaer Deinolen, and placed 2nd in the show earlier in the day, she sold for 320gns to J & I Jones.
