OFFICIAL SHOW & SALE OF BLACK WELSH MOUNTAIN SHEEP
FRIDAY 30TH AUGUST
The Annual Show & Sale of Black Welsh Mountain Sheep again attracted a superb quality entry to Monmouthshire Livestock Centre.
Buyers came from all across the country to secure the very best bloodlines available.
The sale topped at 2000gns for the 5th prize Shearling ram shown by local young breeder, Ffion Evans, Llanvihangel Crucorney, Abergavenny, and was purchased by Llanover Farm Partnership, Llanover, Abergavenny.
In all there were a total of 6 bids in excess of 1000gns, all for rams, with the next best shout at 1850gns for the 1st prize ram lamb & Reserve Champion from Will Workman, Trecastle, Brecon and purchased by SM Forsyth, Heol Senni, Brecon (below)
Next best call at 1700gns came for the 2nd prize Senior ram from the Llanover Farm Partnership, a Fedw bred sheep, he sold to Elin Meredith, Merthyr Tydfil.
EO Williams, Talybont On Usk, sold two sheep, a Shearling ram which stood 2nd in its class and was purchased by JG Strong & L Hendy, Worcester. At the same money EO Williams sold his 1st prize & Male Champion Senior ram to IH & AJ Jones, Llanfihangel GM (below). D & R Rowlands, Gaerwen sold their 1st prize Shearling ram at 1100gns to the Judge Miss Harriet Bown, Binegar, Somerset.
Other leading Male prices included MD & DL Evans, Llanvihangel Crucorney selling their 4th prize ram lamb at 840gns to R & E Rochford, Wincanton. The Llanover Farm Partnership sold their 3rd prize Shearling ram at 800gns to G & DJ Davies, Taliaris.
Leading price in the Female Section for the 2nd prize single ewe lamb from C Garn, Cwmcarvan, Monmouth, and was taken by C Morgan-Gervais, Brecon at 800gns.
Yearling ewes sold to 580gns from MJ McCaull, Hereford with their 2nd prize entry, purchased by G Morgan, Newport.
MD & DL Evans sold the 1st prize & Female Champion at 540gns to Wyn Jones, Rhydyn, and also another at 530gns to JG Strong & L Hendy, Worcester (above). D & R Rowlands sold their 3rd prize shearling at 520gns, also to JG Strong & L Hendy.
B Davies & S Harries, Carmarthen sold the 1st prize ewe lamb & Reserve Female Champion at 500gns to C Morgan-Gervais.
Pens of Breeding ewes sold to 190gns apiece for full mouth ewes from D & R Rowlands. 134 head sold to average £325.69.
